Christian Robert Lim is the most senior Comelec commissioner in the election body. He was an appointee of former President Benigno Aquino III in 2011. He is set to retire by February 2018. His colleague, Rowena Guanzon only has praises for him, as acting chair. It’s because of his rich experience in the agency. “Not only is he the most senior in rank. He’s also the most experienced, with wisdom. Actually a nerd. He studies hard and acts with prudence. On top of that, he’s very collegial,” Guanzon said.

Wealth of Experience
The Commission on Elections recently designates Commissioner Christian Robert Lim as acting Comelec chair. This is after former elections chief Andres Bautista vacated his post. Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez announced that Lim became acting chair “by unanimous vote of commissioners present at today’s Comelec en banc” meeting. “You’re looking at a man who has a wealth of experience in managing elections and also the seniority to carry the day,” Jimenez said.
More Work for Lim
“It’s not as if I won a prize.” Lim, in fact, said: “I told the commissioners, are they sure in designating me? Because I’m retiring and I’m focused now on what’s supposed to be my turnover.” Lim also pointed out that he is finishing the pending cases in their Comelec division. “Now as acting chairman, it seems I have more work to do.”
Peace of Mind for Bautista
On Bautista’s plight, Guanzon said: “I hope that Andy will find peace of mind. I’m glad that he finally made up his mind yesterday and effectively resigned, which the commission en banc has accepted.”
Lim’s new designation takes effect as Bautista’s resignation becomes final. Initially, it was effective until the end of the year. However, Malacañang responded that it is effective immediately. The Congress ceases to impeach him because he’s not a government official anymore. He has lost his immunity from a plunder case as witnessed by his own wife. Lim will serve as acting Comelec chair until the President appoints Bautista’s replacement.
