Anti-Marcos Plot Revival: Do LPs Spearhead EJKs to Discredit the President’s Drug War?

The President clearly declared a drug war and warned all involved to be killed if they resist arrest and endanger the authorities. However, many Filipinos are still taking their chances. Thus, endangering their lives, families, friends, and neighbors. The policemen are on highly defensive mood during buy-busts operations. It’s a choice between the alleged criminals’ lives or theirs. Liberal Party members are again using human rights violations to slow the President down just like during the Marcos era.

[VIDEO]: “Gago ka (You’re a fool).” That was how President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday hit back at former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III for saying his administration’s war on drugs hardly achieved anything.

Death of Minors

The recent death of Grade 11 student Kian Loyd Delos Santos created the latest stir according to the yellow media. He is not the first minor killed in the name of the President’s drug war. He is just one among at least 31 people aged 18 years old and below killed in either police operations or vigilante-style killings in the current administration’s first year. The Children’s Legal Rights and Development Center in January 2017 is the source of the date.

VP’s Opportunity

Vice President Leni Robredo visits the wake of Delos Santos in Caloocan City straight from Naga City, Camarines Sur. She is with Atty. Jose Manuel Diokno of the Free Legal Assistance Group who volunteered his help to the Delos Santos family. Robredo calls for an impartial investigation into the incident. Again, she stresses that the Duterte administration should rethink its approach to fight illegal drugs. However, she has no suggestions for possible options.

Vocal LP Senator

Another LP member, Senator Risa Hontiveros also visits Delos Santos’ wake and said that the witnesses are already under her custody and protection. “My office took custody of the witnesses and began ensuring their safety. Another institution is also helping,” Hontiveros said in a statement. “The protection provided to the family will be extended to the key witnesses who will help in bringing to justice the perpetrators of the extrajudicial killing of Kian Lloyd Delos Santos,” she added. She already made the judgment even before the trial begins.

The Family Fails

The actions of the LP politicians are not surprising. They did the same strategy to destroy the reputation of the late President Ferdinand Marcos. Perhaps, they do not have the ability to think that the killings are the signs that families fail in nurturing their members. The President’s drug war is his last resort to give an ultimatum to heads of families to refrain from the drug trade. He never denied that collateral damages can result in his order to the military forces. If the yellow faction is sincere in their bid to help, maybe they can start from family programs in communities.
