Bongbong Marcos: Costly Ballot Decryption is not an Issue for the Truth

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Atty. Romulo Macalintal of Robredo’s camp questions the possible sources of Bongbong Marcos’ funds. This is for payment of some P218.67-million for ballot decryption and printing. It somehow returns to him after Marcos’ assurance that he won’t stop the electoral process. He aims for the truth to come out regardless of how much it costs.

Robredo’s Motion

Vice President Leni Robredo asks the Supreme Court, sitting as the PET to deny the request of Bongbong Marcos. This is for the decryption and printing of ballot images from the clustered precincts subject of his electoral protest.

Macalintal’s Mockery

Robredo’s counsel, Romulo Macalintal wondered how Marcos pays for the high cost of decrypting the ballots. The cost estimate for one clustered precinct alone is P6,000. That means Marcos need a total of P218.67 million for to decrypt ballots for all 36,445 clustered precincts. However, it is proven that Marcos is surrounded by rich friends who can easily vouch for that.

Fish Evidence

They also claimed that the motion gives Marcos a chance to fish for evidence. If he is not allegedly confused on the remedy he wants to pursue. Robredo’s camp tends to forget who their enemy is. Bongbong Marcos became a namesake for nothing. He definitely has more qualified lawyers and the resources to pursue the case with flying colors. Their mockery might bring confusion but hearsays always do not stand in courts.

Why so Afraid?

So what if the decryption of ballots serves as a fishing expedition for Marcos? What is there for the Robredo camp to be afraid of? It’s Marcos’ money and not Robredo’s so it shall serve his purpose and that is to prove through legal means that the Vice President was not the ultimate winner of the VP election 2016.
