[VIDEO]: Imee Marcos, iginiit na pamumulitika ang imbestigasyon kaugnay sa paggamit sa Tobacco tax funds
House committee on good government and public accountability chairperson Johnny Pimentel said that they prepare the detention room of Gov. Marcos after she announced she won’t attend the probe into the alleged misuse of Ilocos Norte’s tobacco funds. Instead, they were allocated to purchase motor vehicles.
Funds are not Embezzled
The money used was from the province’s tobacco funds. Under Republic Act, Number 7171, 15% of cigarette excise taxes shall be for a special support fund for tobacco farmers. The money is only for cooperative, livelihood, agro-industrial, and infrastructure projects. However, the vehicles were a priority not just for farmers but for all barangays as well. In a democratic country, no law can surpass the will of the majority.
July 25 Hearing
The good government and public accountability panel already sent a subpoena for Marcos to attend the next hearing on July 25. But the governor said she will not oblige after her brother, Bongbong Marcos advises her against it because it is handy for the Solons to detain her that way like the Ilocos 6.
Marcos already replied to the House committee explaining her side. Pimentel and the rest of the panel members just did not honor it. The governor also shows all the details of the purchase in a press conference. But Pimentel demands that she has to put what she said under oath and submit herself to a proper cross-examination by the committee. Her brother made sense after all. They just want to pin down Gov. Marcos and humiliate her in public
