Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos announces in a press conference that she’s won’t attend the hearing in Congress. This is the advice of her younger brother, Bongbong Marcos who also negotiated with the Ilocos Six’s release but to no avail. “I want to explain myself in Congress but others said I should not. Bongbong told me I could also be detained,” she said. In fact, her detention chamber is now ready. She escapes automatic detention because of her brother’s wisdom but can she avoid arrest?

A “detention chamber” is prepared for Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos at the House of Representatives. This is ready just in case she fails to appear at the next congressional inquiry on the alleged irregular purchase of P66.45 million worth of vehicles that is certainly not a corruption case.
Pimentel Threatens Gov. Marcos
Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel, chair of the House good government and public accountability committee, warned Gov. Marcos of physical arrest. She can join her six province mates in detention if she fails to appear at the hearing on July 25.
Pimentel said that Gov. Marcos feared to be ordered detained at the Congress if she attends the hearing of the tobacco inquiry being investigated by the House. This is initiated by her political rival Majority Leader Rudy Fariñas. Pimentel said Marcos has already explained through media interviews how the tobacco funds were spent. She need not fear detention. They only need her sworn statement in person. However, the public knew how they intimidated their resource persons. It is surely an automatic detention for her if she shows up like the Ilocos 6.
To be Arrested if they Can
Gov. Marcos’ refusal to attend the hearing triggers Pimentel to say that his committee would order Marcos’ arrest on the same day of the scheduled hearing. This can be basically the same as the case of ex-Mayor Junjun Binay. Until now, his case has been dragged along for a long time due to insufficient evidence. It has ruined Binay’s reputation of course but it also gains sympathy to the Binay family. This is why his sister Abby Binay is now the Mayor of Makati. On Gov. Marcos’ arrest, they perhaps can do so but not as handy as automatic detention. There will be a strong force of resistance for sure.
