Calida to Supreme Court: There’s Actual Rebellion in both Du30 and Marcos Times

Supreme Court

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Solicitor General Jose Calida assures the Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno that the president is not the late Ferdinand E. Marcos. It is evident, however, that there’s actual rebellion in both their times as president of the Philippines. Even if Du30 has the tendency to follow the footsteps of the late Marcos, it’s not just possible.

Political Question

Calida tells Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno that it’s a political question to determine that the President ‘s martial law has the facts and it is necessary. Sereno rejects this because for her, to brand it as such draws parallelisms to the late Marcos’ martial law.

Necessity

Calida points out to a Supreme Court ruling that says the validity of the suspension of the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus is determined not by its correctness, but by its arbitrariness. If the president deems it necessary, that is enough reason.

Go to Marawi

The SolGen also urges anti-martial law people like Congressman Edcel Lagman to go to Marawi. They can see for themselves the actual rebellion happening. When they are there, they might want to investigate the culture of the citizens of Mindanao. This is to enlighten them on how the outlaws are connected with the common people. Perhaps they can realize why martial law is needed in the whole archipelago.

Doing the Right thing is Marcos-like

It is still a big puzzle why Liberal Party politicians are afraid that the President does the right thing. They are always quoted saying that Du30 is Marcos-like. Most of them just capitalize on the military rule abuses which the late president was not guilty of. They are not aware at all that most Filipinos are hungry for the return of a Marcos. In the person of the son and namesake, Bongbong Marcos.
