CJ Sereno’s dignified silence made Duterte realized his mistakes

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
President Rodrigo Duterte recently apologized to Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno after he reacted toughly on her letter, after her call to follow due process with regards to the surrender of judges allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

He said;”I get tangled with the Chief Justice. I would apologize to the Chief Justice for the harsh words. It was never intended. Ba’t ako kasi because of the magnitude of the problem.”

“It was my way of solving the problem within the ambit of my powers as president. Kayo ang humihingi eh, even the media,” he added.
Sereno told Duterte which irked his ego that she had advised judges against making themselves “physically accountable” if there were no warrants issued for their arrest as per legal protocol.

Duterte responded with fighting words, threatening to declare martial law should there be constitutional crisis.
Sereno, refused to respond to Duterte’s unprofessional remarks and offered her dignified silence instead.
