Comelec Chair Cries Extortion but NBI is on for Full Investigation

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Comelec Chair Andres Bautista said in a radio interview said that he is the victim of his wife’s accusation. That he allegedly acquired ill-gotten wealth. This is pure extortion he said. The Bautistas already have marital problems since 2013. He suspects that a political angle starts to ride on the issue. Like any other trial by publicity, Bautista’s credibility is tainted even before a full investigation is yet to start.

[VIDEO]: Commission on Elections Chair Andres Bautista on Monday denied his wife’s claim that he has amassed nearly P1 billion worth of ill-gotten wealth, accusing her instead of attempting to extort money from him and having an affair.

A Complete Lie

Bautista denied the accusations of his wife, Patricia Paz. That he kept certain bank accounts and owned some pieces of property that he did not state in his 2016 statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN). “It’s a complete lie,” Bautista said.

Ransacked his Cabinet

Patricia ransacked his cabinet in their condominium unit. She also stole his “financial documents.” These include bank passbooks that are now the basis for her charges, he said. If anything, Bautista claimed it is his wife who has an “extravagant lifestyle.” She even had a credit card debt of P3.2 million once that he paid for.

Amicable Settlement

“It’s all about money. She wants to amicably settle. It involves a huge amount, which I don’t have,” he said. The interview was at the unit of Patricia’s mother, Baby Cruz Vasquez, and stepfather, Daniel Vasquez, in Makati City. He shows support from both sides of the family.  “This is pure extortion,” he added. Bautista said his wife asked for a P620-million settlement from him but he could not afford it.

Full Investigation

Malacañang called for a thorough probe into the corruption allegations against Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista. This is after his wife Patricia Paz “Tish” Bautista claimed he may have nearly P1 billion in unexplained wealth. “The whole matter has to be fully investigated. At this stage, that’s all I can say,” said Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella on Monday, August 7. President Du30 earlier grants an audience to the couple which Bautista appreciates. Only one thing is clear for now, he gets a taste of LP’s medicine against their political enemies particularly the Marcoses, the Binays and the current President.
