drug war

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
People in the Philippines are really confused. Why won’t drug addicts stop their vices when the government’s drug war will not spare even the rich and popular? It’s simply because they can’t stop! They have developed a mental condition that dictates their body that they need the illegal substance. You can help a loved one with lots of compassion and patience. Most of all, give quality time.

[VIDEO]: Drug addiction is a mental condition and must be treated with compassion. Family and friends can help effectively in the recovery period after intervention. Never nag or be harsh with a drug addict. Watch this to know why.

Family Guidance

The drug problem of the country starts from the family. Lack of guidance by the parents and peer pressure are main causes of drug addiction. Once hooked,  It is not something people can do by themselves. They need family members, friends and those people who care to hold their hand through it.

Support Group

Members of the family and the community are vital support groups for any drug addict. They must not be judged but understood. Group conversations, playing sports and just to be there can alleviate their “wants” for the drugs. However, it is important to already seek professional help near you. A rehabilitation center would be ideal.

Self Help

If for some reason, treatments in an accredited drug rehabilitation center is not yet accessible, try to develop an environment at home that will not trigger the mood attacks of the addict. It must be friendly, safe, nourishing and loving place to be. It is not the time to put blames on the affected. Instead, we should all help in bringing them back to the society.
