In the name of peace, presidential peace adviser Jesus Dureza says he and Filipino-American businesswoman Loida Nicolas-Lewis, met at the Philippine Consulate General in New York City. Lewis is only concerned that if Bongbong Marcos wins the Vice Presidential electoral protest against Robredo, he would step down so the former senator could take over the presidency, according to Dureza. He denies the statement of the president.

[VIDEO] Peace Adviser Dureza ang rason kung bakit papatalsikin si Pres. Duterte ni Loida Nicolas Lewis
Sec. Jesus Dureza, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, on his meeting with Loida Nicolas Lewis.
It is the interest of the country that is moving people in our individual advocacies. Philippine Consul, Tess De Vega witnesses the two pro and anti Duterte meeting at a common ground. Dureza talks to Lewis personally and not as a representative of the Duterte administration.
Lewis, a critic of President Duterte, campaigns for Liberal Party presidential bet Mar Roxas and running mate Leni Robredo during the elections. Robredo resigns from the Duterte Cabinet after not feeling welcome anymore. In fairness to Lewis, she advocates for Filipino empowerment and has organized relevant events that could give opportunities to fellow Filipinos here and overseas. She recently calls for the President to step down but that’s only her own opinion. Many people who have known her well can attest that she will not spend a penny to oust Duterte. Portraying her a villain for the country seems unfair.
No such Thing as Bongbong Marcos Take Over?
Dureza assures Lewis that he had heard no such thing as the president giving the presidency to Bongbong Marcos. It might be right in the sense that despite various media’s capturing the actual interview when he swears that, that can only be a spur of the moment. It can be a joke or just to please his pro-Marcos supporters. Dureza believes that Duterte will not relinquish anything to any other person. It doesn’t matter if it is to Bongbong Marcos or Leni Robredo. “He was elected by the people, he is needed,” he said.
Just a Matter of Opinion
The exchanges between Lewis and Dureza could be judged as superficial or lots of lies – but it is just to give them the benefit of the doubt. They just want peace and so, they are entitled to their own opinion.
