President-elect Rodrigo Duterte was decisive to ban election campaigns for his cabinet members while serving in the government – because this can cause corruption and he vowed to topple that in any way that is possible. So, it is understood that if his cabinet members plan to run for a higher position then they must resign first.
Since Duterte appointed some of his peers, he proudly said: “We retire all together and be contented with what is given to us”. Government officials who are involved in drugs will also be prosecuted since he knew many are. Under RA 6975, provincial police chiefs are chosen by the governor from a list of three nominees provided by the regional police chief – but under Duterte, they cannot.
The Philippines ranks 95th out of 168 countries in Transparency International’s 2015 Corruption Perceptions Index according to the Global Financial Integrity report.
Around $132.9 billion were lost to crime, corruption, and tax evasion based on financial report of the country over the last five decades.
