Duterte Prioritizes Isolation of Drug Prisoners than Instalation of Rehabilitation Centers

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II explained on TV that the transfer of two high-profile drug lords at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to a prison island is necessary to make sure that they have no access with cell phone and internet signals. Convicted drug lords Peter Co and Herbert Colangco were already imprisoned by the previous administration but President Rodrigo Duterte suspects that they still run their illegal business from the prison cell using technology devices.

Caballo island or an island in Palawan were eyed for the transfer. Duterte can go on warning drug lord that their hours are numbered but it seems that he cannot enforce the security police to prohibit the use of communication devices or even their entry inside the penitentiary which is a standard protocol in all prison cells wordwide.

Duterte added Peter Lim to his drug lord list who allegedly masterminded the illegal drug trade in the Visayas. Lim is currently outside of the country and is not allowed to come back as ordered by the president or else he would die. The President’s threat also goes to Colangco and Co should they happen to escape from prison. It is not mentioned if Co and Colanco will be rehabilitated while in the island or if there’s any plan to establish the much needed rehabilitation centers all over the country.
