Gringo Honasan II: The Military Leader during EDSA Revolt is against Aquino but Loyal to Bongbong Marcos

Bongbong Marcos

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores

Senator Gringo Honasan II who led RAM, the Military group that convinces the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos to step down speaks highly of the Marcoses. He has high respect to Senator Juan Ponce Enrile who is like a brother to Marcos. This is confusing to those who did not know his story. It is not a secret that he leads various coup attempts against the late President Cory Aquino right after the EDSA revolt or mutiny. He shocks the nation when he endorses Bongbong Marcos as Vice President despite being his rival for the position. His brother recounts his loyalty to the Marcoses while they were in a safe house during the revolt. They cannot say something negative about the Marcos regime despite their revolutionary action.

Brother’s Testimony

Senator Gringo Honasan’s part during EDSA is not against Marcos. It is about the hardships of Filipinos caused by the insurgents and their conflict with the Marcos regime. It is evident to his brother his discontent on how the military is handled by General Fabian C. Ver – that’s why the RAM existed. But since his brother is with the government, after the 1986 snap elections, the brother could only join anti-Marcos rallies in secret. Gringo remains pro-Marcos until this date.

Wife is Surprised about the News that Gringo Honasan turns against the Government

Gringo Honasan’s wife, Jane cries upon hearing that then Minister of National Defense Enrile is resigned. Fear is felt by the family when the updates of the revolution are reported. Then Lt. Gen. Fidel V. Ramos joins the picture, and that he, Enrile,  and the RAM boys are holed up in Camp Aguinaldo. They allegedly declared their defection and swear that they are not going to give up without a fight. Gringo relayed the order that his family has to be whisked off to a safe house. It is clarified later on that Marcos obliged to Enrile’s plea to step down to avoid bloodshed. There was no doubt that the late General Ver’s force can defeat them all but due to the love and respect of Macoy to Enrile, they do not have to fight with arms for the good of the country.

Marcos Gains Enrile and Honasan’s Continued Loyalty by Stepping Down

The real essence of Edsa came about when Marcos finally steps down. He has not changed a bit in the eyes of Enrile and Honasan, He is still the president who only wants the best for his people despite the media propaganda against him. The two continued their fight aginst succeeding governments after Marcos that do not prioritize the welfare of Filipinos.

Bongbong Marcos Support

The two main players of EDSA Revolution believe that the best leader that can improve the country to its maximum level is the son of the late president, Bongbong Marcos. He has the qualities of a good president just like his father and the wisdom to implement policies that the people can follow wholeheartedly. Enrile is the younger Marcos’ biggest supporter when he disputes the Basic Bangsamoro law under the former president Noynoy Aquino. After Honasan’s endorsement of Bongbong Marcos as VP during the last elections with running mate Jejomar Binay, he continues to support his bid through Bihomadu or Binay, Honasan. Marcos, and Du30 alliance. This aims to prevent the Liberal Party from regaining the crucial executive positions of the country – that can be seen particularly in Marcos’ electoral protest against VP Leni Robredo.
