What’s next for the ex-Presidential sister Kris Aquino in showbiz? It must be a lot for her to take on. But the star has finally made up her mind. Did she? Here’s the report:
‘So here’s a shoutout of THANK YOU to the Kapamilya Network ABS-CBN for all that was, and here’s a shoutout of THANK YOU to my new APT family for all that will be,’ says Kris Aquino.
MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino is speaking up about her upcoming plans for her career, months after announcing a break from showbiz and working with ABS-CBN, her previous network with whom she worked for many years.
Early on Monday, September 12, the Kris announced on Instagram that she will be working with Antonio P. Tuviera (APT) Entertainment Inc, a subsidiary of Television And Production Exponents Philippines (TAPE) Inc.
Both produce shows for GMA, with APT producing their Lenten Specials and TAPE producing the long-running afternoon variety show Eat Bulaga!.
In March, Kris announced that she was taking time off showbiz, citing health concerns, later revealing that a death threat from the Abu Sayyaf was also a reason for her break.
In her Instagram post on September 12, Kris explained that she and ABS-CBN executives agreed to talk after the campaign season and after her vacation with her sons. (READ: Kris Aquino in talks for TV comeback)
“We didn’t sign [in February], I went to Hawaii, came back to the campaign. Then left again. Our agreement was we’d talk when I got back. That is the risk of taking time for yourself – when you come back there’s no guarantee that the space will be held for you. We spoke in July but there was no definite show and no assured time frame of my return on air,” wrote Kris.
“I perfectly understood – as much as I wanted to believe I was a pillar of the network, everybody is dispensable. And I say that with no bitterness – just HONESTY.”
In a second Instagram post, Kris recounted that her friend and manager Boy Abunda reached out to Tony P. Tuviera, who co-owns APT Entertainment Inc.
APT has produced the comedy-drama Betty and the Beast starring Aiza Seguerra and Jimmy Santos, and H3O (Ha, Ha, Ha Over!) a musical-gag show starring GMA’s Eat Bulaga co-host and host Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola.
Kris said that initial talks for her project with APT was supposed to be a digital initiative, but has since become a project for TV.
“Mr. [Tuviera] actually remembered coming to our home in Times Street in 1986 to meet my mom [former president Cory Aquino] to produce a show for me when I was 15 years old. Thirty years after – dumating na ang TAMANG PANAHON (the right time has arrived),” wrote Kris, a possible reference to the popular saying on an Eat Bulaga! segment that followed the popular love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (AlDub).
Kris finished by saying that she is going on vacation with her boys once again, as she’ll be busy for the next few months.
When she gets back, she says, she’ll be staying at an apartment she rented from Manolo Lopez and his wife Maritess.
Manolo owns the Lopez Holdings Corporation, which holds their investments in companies like ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp, which is headed by his nephew, Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III.
In Good Terms
Kris said she took this as proof that she and ABS-CBN are still on good terms. “I believe that is proof enough that there is no bad blood between the owners of my former network and me,” said Kris.
She ended: “This is the first and last I shall say about this chapter of my life. You deserved the true story and I gave you my truth, so that we may all move forward…
“So here’s a shoutout of THANK YOU to the Kapamilya Network ABS-CBN for all that was, and here’s a shoutout of THANK YOU to my new APT family for all that will be. And most of all my THANK YOU to all of you for allowing me to just be me.”
