HSBC sees the Philippines standing out as one of Asia’s top performers under the initial stage of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term. The gross domestic product (GDP) growth this year is expected to remain robust at 6.5 percent. However, the most awaited part is not about the country’s economic progress – but how shall the US-Philippines go about the previous Duterte-Obama conflict now that Donald Trump is already inducted as the new President of America?

Trump’s Advantage over Duterte
Duterte comments that aside from being a Billionaire, Trump has a very beautiful wife. He said that he’s envious of him because despite having the same brutal mouth and becoming president of their own countries, Trump manages to experience heaven on earth beside his gorgeous wife. This is very typical of Duterte. The truth is, his legal wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman who has a German grandfather is equally beautiful as Trump’s wife, Slovene-American, Melania Trump. On top of that, since Duterte has already separated from Zimmerman, his common-law wife, Honeylet Avanceña is not only smart but also good looking.
Ties with Marcos
Thirty years after the fall of Ferdinand Marcos, his international political consultant, Paul Manafort is still very much active. He is Donald Trump’s chief campaign strategist. As everybody probably knows, Duterte favors the son, Bongbong Marcos whom he endorses to be his successor in the presidency.
Trump and Marcos’ Real Estate Prowess
Trump Tower is a 58-story skyscraper located on Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos and former First Lady, Imelda, owns a 66-story Manhattan skyscraper and a 10-floor shopping mall called Herald Center in New york. Both are already auctioned but there are still other properties that remain.
Trump and the late Marcos’ son Bongbong Marcos can definitely relate with each other given the exposure in extreme businesses, privileged status, and vast wealth. Unlike the Fil-Am Loida Nicolas Lewis who is not in favor of Duterte’s treatment of the younger Marcos, and who calls for the president to resign, Donald Trump is seen as an ally to the Filipino President’s political platform and personal wishes.
