The president thinks that Bongbong Marcos would not abandon his appeal against Leni Robredo’s VP race win. He can lose it if he accepts an elective post. The appeal will not be valid for intents and purposes,” said Du30 during a chance interview recently. Robredo has nothing to worry about.

Not Likely to Accept Appointment
Former senator Bongbong Marcos is not likely to accept the post of interior secretary, which has been vacated after the President let go of Ismael Sueno after a brief exchange during a cabinet meeting. This should not scare Leni Robredo with Marcos having the power to influence the police and the LGUs.
Can Affect Electoral Protest against Leni Robredo
Du30 explains that Marcos, who can be offered the post, will perhaps not want the position since it could affect his electoral protest against Leni Robredo who sits as Vice President amidst doubtful win. Although this can still be possible like in the case of Mar Roxas whose electoral protest against Binay was dismissed after six long years – equivalent to the VP post’s term.
Electoral Protest Update
Marcos filed an electoral protest in June 2016 before the Supreme Court or SC that sits as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal or PET. He accused Robredo and the Liberal Party or LP of cheating in the May 2016 polls, citing Robredo’s slim margin of her win over him. In the electoral protest, he asks for a recount that could easily surpass the difference in the number of voted in various disputed precincts. The preliminary conference is yet to set in motion.
Can Take an Elective Post but it can Affect
It is not prohibited to take up an elective post while the electoral protest is still ongoing but as a matter of interest, once the official is installed in the cabinet, his priority would be to focus on his tasks. So, the protest can be easily left behind.
