Vice President Leni Robredo’s lawyer Romulo Macalintal notes that the Supreme Court dismisses similar cases before. He cannot understand why the Marcos protest is allowed to continue. Macalintal cites the election protest that former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas files against former Vice President Jejomar Binay in 2010.

Roxas’ Protest against Binay
In a protest filed July 2010, Roxas alleges that election results used for Binay’s proclamation as vice president do not reflect actual votes due to a high rate of void votes in the certificates of canvass in all precincts nationwide. In August 2016, the PET dismisses Roxas’ protest for being moot and academic. No single file is examined unlike the current decision of PET, Macalintal expresses his dismay over the matter.
Macalintal Doesn’t Want Ballot Boxes Opened
Macalintal stresses also that the allegations of Marcos in the protest do not support grounds to open ballot boxes in the May 2016 elections. He clarifies that he does not question the jurisdiction of the PET. He is just confused why PET states that the allegations must be very, very specific and yet sided the general kind of protest that Marcos filed. They should not allow any party to fish for evidence,” he said.
Trust the SC?
The vice president’s camp claims that they are ready to proceed to a preliminary conference if the tribunal denies their motion for reconsideration. They said that the Robredo camp has no problem for they trust the Supreme Court. They have faith in the entire membership of the PET. It remains to be seen that their belief in the integrity, competence, and fairness of the SC remains if SC continues to rule in favor of Bongbong Marcos.
The Robredo camp also announced that they are confident that the vice president will win the case. They also added that they are not scared. It is hoped by the camp’s counsel that Vice President Robredo emerges as the winner despite the strong evidence gathered by the Marcos camp – with the help of various concerned group.
