Malaysia worried: El Cid history to be repeated in the Sabah Claim

welcome By: Elena Grace Flores
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was threatened to be charged with treason by Malaysian authorities after appearing in a picture with Princess Jacel Kiram of the Sultanate of Sulu, the rightful owner of Sabah. Princess Jacel is the daughter of the late Sultan Jamalul Kiram, the latest sultan recognized by the Republic of the Philippines before Sultan Phugdal.

The somewhat childish reaction of the Malaysians involved is an indication of fear that finally, the Philippines would take a step forward in backing up the Sultanate in the Sabah Claim. “The Lahad Datu incident where the brave warriors of the Sultanate returned to their own land to get it back from the land grabbers – even without the support of then President Ninoy Aquino who forged an agreement with Malaysia may not be successful – but made a very strong point in history; the Filipino Muslims will die for their homeland and will be ready for war should the ancestral land will not be returned at the soonest possible time.

Luckily for the sultanate, the newly elected Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is very vocal in recognizing the Sultanate of Sulu as sovereign over Sabah, therefore a Philippine territory. This time around, it’s not only the Muslim Filipinos fighting for the Sabah Claim but also the Filipino Christians fighting as one. Indeed, as President Duterte declared, if needed – the government will be fighting side by side with the sultanate. Remember the El Cid of Spain? His name is also Rodrigo (Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar) like the Philippine President – a Christian who fought side by side with the Muslim brothers for the common good.
