Contrary to the many intolerance of President Rodrigo Duterte’s haters and supporters alike via social media, PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa is urging the public to give the 3 generals who reported to him to give them the benefit of the doubt until proven guilty. He might be tough as a rock thus gaining the nickname “Bato” or stone but he certainly knows due process. He is a good balance between the President’s drastic actions and the people’s impatience.
The probe against the 3 suspected Generals namely; Diaz, Pagdilao and Tinio are on the way starting from a 7-day investigation by the PNP. The emotional encounter between dela Rosa and the three high ranking officials who are now suspects took place because of Bato’s belief in the democratic system contrary to some netizens’ comments as to why not just kill them like the other small-time drug dealers? The surrender however was peaceful without any indication of violence – so dela Rosa did not have to to use the “self-defense” excuses of the President.
Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar told CNN Philippines that the evidence should not yet be released to the public “as it may prejudice the administrative and criminal investigation/s and case/s against them.” It will take about a month to complete the process where the accused are given the chance to defend themselves in the court of law. The one month target is based on the President’s order to speed up the process to avoid slow justice.
