Excerpts from the Royal Sultanate of Sulu book: Mr. Pastor “Boy” Saycon, a Christian, was conferred the title of “Datu Mutahmeen’ by late Sultan Jamalul Kiram III witnessed by Datu Raja Muda Agbimuddin Kiram and their Royal Brothers and sister. The name benefits his character as seen by the Sultan – “a man with a vision to rectify historical prejudices so as to build the path of Muslim and Christian unity in the Philippines as ONE FILIPINO PEOPLE”.
He epitomized in return for the contribution of Emir Mutahmeen, a Muslim Emir of Zaragosa, who extended his help to Juan Rodrigo Diaz of Vibar, a Christian and a man called “El Cid” of Spain, but whom the Emir said “a man with the vision to be just and courage to be merciful”, to unite all Provinces to support King Alfonso of Spain, in spite being a Muslim Emir.
Mr. Saycon known to the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo as “Datu Mutahmeen” contributed so much efforts to strenghthen the position of its claim to regain Sultanate’s patrimony ond its homeland in North Borneo (Sabah).
It importantly proves that differences in religious belief do not deter the ability to foster unity towards achieving the common belief in building One Region for the One People under a One Nation.
