[VIDEO]: Vice President Leni Robredo and defeated vice presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. both welcomed on Wednesday the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to set the preliminary conference for the latter’s electoral protest in June.
The SC as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), set PET Case 005 which is the Marcos versus Robredo poll protest for a preliminary conference at 2 p.m. on June 21. The preliminary conference enables the two parties to narrow down the conflict to resolve the case faster.
Prelim-Con Briefs Deadline
The Supreme Court ordered both camps to submit preliminary conference briefs by June 16 which is prior to the actual preliminary conference itself on June 21. This is where they would present their priorities as far as issues of the protest is concerned.
Legitimacy of the Vice President
Romulo Macalintal, Robredo’s lawyer, said that they are happy with the decision. They want the case to be resolved quickly to remove doubts on the vice president’s legitimacy. “We welcome the Presidential Electoral Tribunal’s decision and want the case resolved at the soonest to remove any questions about the legitimacy of the victory of VP Leni,” Macalintal clarified.
Welcomed by Both Camps
This puts both camps of Leni Robredo and Bongbong Marcos in a welcoming mood for the actual preliminary conference for the latter’s electoral protest in June. May truth prevails in the land of the rising sun.
