A disturbed Caucasian who robbed at least 113 million worth of casino chips was found to be responsible for the Resorts World incident that left at least 36 dead. Despite the ongoing ISIS-related situation in Marawi, authorities ruled out terrorism as the motive for the attack. So, declaring martial law in Luzon is unlikely as feared by former President Fidel Ramos.

[VIDEO]: Former President Fidel V. Ramos on Friday told Cabinet members and lawmakers who support the declaration of martial law in Mindanao to “temper statements” and instead assure the public that government forces can overcome terrorist threats even without military rule.

Terrorists’ Claim Disputed

Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said; “This particular situation in Manila is not related in any way to a terrorist attack.” An act of sedition or terrorism that threatens the lives of the people is a ground for expanding the martial law that is already in existence in Mindanao.

Collateral Damage

So far, 11 soldiers were killed when a military airstrike launched a “friendly fire” in the city that was attacked by militants. This accidentally happened as government forces struggled to rout the remaining Islamic extremists who laid a siege. 3,700 people are still to escape from Marawi. Some residents said that ISIS shot at them first. Then get interrogated by soldiers before the rescue. In between, they swam the Agus River to stay alive. The military must be careful whom the coddle. The militants have the habit of pretending like the local dwellers.

The President’s Warning

President Du30 hears a predecessor’s warning against pushing through with any plans to expand martial law beyond Mindanao to the Visayas and even nationwide. However, he is known to be a man that cannot be dictated. He will always do what is right for the people’s welfare and nothing else.

Ramos’ Concern

Ramos calls for resistance to any martial law expansion move. He maintains that the military and the police are on top of the Marawi violence. On that, the former President did not have a good record in suppressing rebels during his time. So, the people reiterates to him by saying; let the President do his thing now that it is his time.
