Leni Robredo recently said that it his in her interest that the electoral protest must be resolved urgently. She hopes that when this is done, it puts to rest doubts against her cheating during the elections. “For me, it would be good if the Presidential Election Tribunal will start the recount. Because until the issue is resolved, it would only give Bongbong Marcos’ supporters the right to claim that he’s the real vice president,” Robredo said in an interview with dzMM.

Leni Robredo not the Cause of Delay?
Marcos asked the Supreme Court, sitting as the PET, to dismiss Robredo’s motion for reconsideration on its ruling allowing his protest to proceed. Robredo corrected the alleged wrong idea that she doesn’t want the recount to happen.
Putting the Blame on Marcos
Robredo blamed the Marcos for the delays in the resolution of the case. She noted that the case was filed in July 2016, but the motion to set the preliminary conference was only filed last January. This is when Marcos urged PET to order the immediate collection, retrieval, transport and delivery of ballot boxes from all 36,465 clustered precincts of the May 9, 2016 elections and to go ahead with the preliminary conference.
Robredo explained that her motion for reconsideration was necessary because Marcos’ protest covers 662 municipalities but the affidavits they submitted only cover 57 voting precincts. They are just asking for the rest. Marcos answered that those can be presented in the presentation of evidence.
Impeachment by Marcos Loyalists
Aside from the electoral protest, Marcos loyalists Oliver Lozano and Melchor Chavez already filed an impeachment complaint against Robredo in the House of Representatives. They accuse her of committing “acts of injustice” when she disclosed “fake news” about the Philippines in the UN side event video.
