Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña, the president’s common law wife discloses that it took four years of courtship before the two became a couple. Digong has long been separated from ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman, Mayor Sarah’s mother along with two other siblings before their annulment in 2000. Like any other woman in the same situation, Honeylet wishes to finally tie the knot with the president. Will there be wedding bells ringing for the first couple soon?

It was not a case of love at first sight for them unlike the whirlwind romance of the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos and former first lady Imelda Marcos. Digong appreciates the late president’s work as a prosecutor during the martial law regime. He maintains a good connection with his son, Bongbong Marcos. He acts like he’s a womanizer in public but only a few know him in private. Honeylet is an OFW nurse who works in the United Sates for six years. Only after four years from their initial encounter did “love” rekindles. That is when she decided to return home for good. This is contrary to the gossips about their relationship during elections.
Honeylet and the president are gifted with a 12-year-old daughter. She is the lovable Veronica “Kitty” Duterte who stays in their home in Davao due to her studies. Kitty is emotional when her mother told her that her father runs for President. She seems to get over it during the inauguration where she is active in some official ceremonies.

Honeylet Prefers to be the Carer, not First Lady
Honeylet is a very private person who prefers to be the president’s “carer” than First Lady. She makes sure to give peace and space for Digong to think while staying at home in Davao. This is the private side of the country’s leader. Noisy while in office and quiet at home. She comments that there’s no one in their household that needs swearing or cursing.
The government does not need to pay Honeylet for any task that may be assigned to her. She prefers unpaid volunteer work specifically in the healthcare area due to her background. She obviously had enough of the bad publicity during elections. Digong’s victory is the answer to those wrong accusations. No need to fight them back. As the woman who lives with the president for twenty years, she indeed knows him well.
