Traveler’s diarrhea or watery stool eliminated frequently with severe stomach ache can be viral or bacterial but usual cause is dirty or unpurified dirty water. It is much safer to drink sterilized drinking water in a sealed bottle while moving from one place to the other especially in unfamiliar grounds. These symptoms are also experienced: stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, fever and lack of energy.
The best way to prevent traveler’s diarrhea is by avoiding unsanitary water. When in doubt, drink only boiled or bottled water and don’t use ice. Avoid food from street vendors and under-cooked foods. Beware of salads, unpasteurized dairy products and uncooked fruits and vegetables, unless you’re sure they’re from a sanitary source. An oral rehydration solution (such as Pedialyte®) may be especially helpful. If it’s not available, bottled water, soft drinks without caffeine and fruit juices are good substitutes. Dark urine may be a sign that you’re dehydrated, so if you see it, drink even more fluids. To avoid making matters worse, don’t drink water potentially contaminated water or dairy beverages. Taking over-the-counter anti-diarrhea medicines may help stop the diarrhea and fluid loss. Follow the package directions when using these products. Seek medical attention if your diarrhea or other symptoms get worse or you see blood in your stool or urine. Some people are more at risk for serious problems from diarrhea. Children under three, pregnant women and people with AIDS, diabetes or heart disease should see a doctor when they have diarrhea.
