The Philippines’ winning the Arbitral Tribunal decission over the South China Sea dispute will be worth nothing if the country tolerates the demand of China – to disregard the ruling and go back to the negotiating table without any cards.
This being said, amidst many criticisms, the Philippine Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr bravely mentioned the call to respect the ruling despite the Chinese saying that the recent Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Mongolia last Friday, July 15 was not the proper venue.
Yasay was explaining the Philippines’ stand with great humility that the country will proceed in dealing with the issue with utmost restraint and sobriety. Back home, Filipinos are divided with many preferring not going to war against China – but China’s looking down at the capabilities of the Filipinos also ignited Philippine patriotism – that all citizens pledged for, to die for the country.
